ACNA Meeting Tomorrow

Tuesday Dec 5 @ 7:00 p.m.

ACNA Meeting to be held at Alpine School.  Everyone Welcome.

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

ACNA Special Meeting next Tuesday November 7th.

For those that have shown interest in either a community garden or a skating rink in Alpine Park, we will have a discussion with Lauren Ross, a Neighbourhood Liason with the City of Kitchener on Tuesday, November 7th (at 7pm) at Alpine Public School Library where our regular Alpine Community Neighbourhood Association meeting is held. Lauren will be talking about the Neighbourhood Action Plan (doing such projects as the rink and community garden).

The City of Kitchener has committed to piloting a couple of Neighbourhood Action Plans across the city and she thinks this opportunity could be a supportive framework for some of the conversations we are already having. Neighbourhood Action Plans can help to lay out a clear vision for the future of a neighbourhood and identify meaningful and measurable goals with actions. Neighbourhood Action Plans also come with resources which is always helpful.

McLennan Park Update

Paul Singh wrote a note to Ward 6 residents for the Country Hills Recreation Association (CHRA) newsletter.  The topic is the remediation and improvements planned for McLennan Park.  Here it is...
----------------------------------------------

Dear Residents,

As your ward councillor, I want to provide you with an update about the work taking place this summer at McLennan Park.

Although the Great Lawn restoration is a major undertaking, it will bring this area back to its previous glory. The work is considerable, requiring the restoration of the clay landfill cap and grass throughout the entire great lawn area, the addition of trees for added shade, along with some seating areas and trail improvements. I want to take the opportunity to thank you in advance for your patience during this extensive work.

I’m also very pleased to share that with the support of your feedback received over the years, I successfully advocated for some of those further improvements to the park. The larger new trees for some much needed shade around the great lawn area, as well as the new trail to be added along the eastern edge of the lawn (along the roadway) will now create a walking loop and provide better trail connectivity for your enjoyment. A shade structure will also be installed near the playground, a much needed park amenity that many of you also suggested. These new additions will greatly help to improve your park experience.

Feel free to contact paul.singh@kitchener.ca or call me at 519-741-2793. If you prefer to meet and chat in person, I will be at the Country Hills Community Centre the third Wednesday of each month for a drop-in from 7:30-8:30 pm.

ACNA - How should we spend a $21,000 neighbourhood grant?

We need your input! Ward 6 in the City of Kitchener won a Festival of Neighbourhoods grant valued at $21,000 for a community improvement project! The project has to take the form of something constructed/manufactured which will last for many years.

Please take a few moments to complete a three question survey and add your voice to the planning process. This survey will be open until June 10th.  Paper copies are available at the Country Hills Community Centre.
